To achieve the Gold level, MBDC evaluated Eco Intelligent® Polyester material and product ingredients for human and environmental health and safety. Certification of a finished product required the evaluation of the mills' facilities within the five categories including Materials, Nutrient (Re) utilization, Energy, Water and Social Responsibility.

Eco Intelligent® Polyester is a synthetic textile designed for sustainability from start to finish. This concept was developed with McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry and is a textile designed to be used, recovered and remanufactured safely and effectively throughout multiple product lifecycles—the first textile designed as a technical nutrient.
Why is this important? Most polyester is manufactured using a catalyst called antimony trioxide, which is a possible human carcinogen.
Eco Intelligent Polyester, however, is:
- Made from a fully optimized fiber using a new, environmentally safe catalyst.
- Designed with optimized dyestuffs and chemicals, which replace harmful chemicals and hazardous heavy metals.
- Designed to be safely recycled into new fabric at the end of its commercial life, with no hazardous by-products.
- Made with sustainable manufacturing processes, allowing limitless design and color.

***We are also offering a Nano-tex finish on this product. Nano-tex has been given a silver rating by MBDC. If a stain repellent finish is required, we can apply the Nano-tex finish for a 5 yard minimum and $2.25 additional charge per yard. Nano-Tex technology, is a new innovative treatment that protects against spills and stains for the life of the product, increases durability, and maintains breathability while preserving the natural hand of the fabrics.
